Abstract (EN)
Turkish folk medicine involves a great variety of treatment methods that have survived until today. The religious beliefs of the primeval days have had a predominant influence on these methods. After the Turks converted into Islam, these methods continued to be used with some adaptations and Turkish folk medicine and religious beliefs became intertwined. The most important figure of Turkish folk medicine are the ocaks. Believed to be divine and a cure in all Turkish communities, these ocaks have functioned as treatment centres throughout the history. Anatolia has a rich heritage in terms of ocaks. There are ocaks in each city of Anatolia, where people appeal to for remedy. Yozgat region is also a place where there are several ocaks. The fact that there is not a comprehensive study about these ocaks has made this research imperative. The ocaks in Yozgat became the most important treatment centres for the Turkish settlers from the 11th century and on, but their significance has diminished due to advanced medicine and technology.
