KILIÇIn this study, the influence of moisture content and compaction energy on thestrength of Handere clay soil from North of Adana was studied experimentally.Unconfined compression tests were conducted on laboratory prepared clay soil withfive different water content values of 20%, 25%, 30%, 35% and 40% and strengthsof Handere clay were determined in different water content. During the samplepreparation, the clay was placed in the mold in three layers. Each layer wascompacted by giving different blows such as 25, 40 and 50. The effect of this methodcompaction on the strength of clay was also investigated. The results indicate that considerable improvement in the strength of clay wasobserved with the increase in compaction energy. It was also observed that thestrength of clay was decreased with the increase in moisture content value. Keywords: Compaction, Moisture content, Strength, Handere clayII
