Solidarity movement in the framework of the consepts of freedom and publicity in Hannah Arendt

This study aims to provide a conceptual background to analyze the Polish Solidarity Movement within the framework of the basic concepts of political philosophy. The conceptual framework developed in this study is built on Hannah Arendt's theory. Hannah Arendt analyzed and reinterpreted the concepts of traditional political philosophy and gave them new meanings. In this way, she brought a new perspective to the era she lived through. Since Arendt makes sense of traditional concepts from a historical point of view, in this study, first of all, a historical study of philosophy from Arendt's point of view is given. Then, the concepts she employed in developing a new political theory are examined in conjunction with the concepts she placed at the center of her theory. Finally, based on Arendt's understanding of totalitarianism in a totalitarian era, the Polish Solidarity Movement is discussed. This movement is chosen not only because it was an important opposition movement against totalitarianism, but in order to discuss to what extent it was able to bring about a new public space and the possibility of freedom.
