Abstract (EN)
This study aims a sustainable design process that addresses the environmental, economic, socio-cultural dimensions of sustainable architecture from a holistic perspective which is locally focused. Sustainability, as a concept targeted by developed and developing countries, includes different socio-economic structures, climate, geography and cultures. In this respect, although the targets determined in ensuring sustainability are common, the methods to be followed will differ for each geography and region. All characteristic data of a region such as climate, resources, culture, economy, informs the design. In this respect, the study takes into consideration the locally differentiating nature of the issues addressed within the scope of sustainability; It includes the idea that sustainable architectural practices should be developed with a local focus. This approach is also complemented by a holistic perspective in which environmental, economic and socio-cultural dimensions of sustainability are dealt with in an interconnected and comprehensive manner. Vernacular architecture, which is a reflection of the concept of culture as a whole of a society's economy, climate, lifestyle, natural environment and spiritual values; Its contribution in ensuring sustainability has an important potential. In this respect, in the design process of an existing or new settlement, Vernacular architecture has an important place in understanding the environmental, social and cultural structure of the local. Hassan Fathy, on the other hand, reveals an important experience in the design of traditional architecture and living spaces with the architectural design and planning works he has done throughout his career. From this point, in the study; By evaluating the design of sustainable architecture design with a holistic approach based on Hassan Fathy's architectural experiences, it has been tried to develop solutions to ensure sustainability.
