The evaluation of the knowledge levels of pre-hospital emergency health workers about drugs and medical devices used in ambulances

This research; It is a quantitative study in the planned screening model for the evaluation of the knowledge levels of pre-hospital emergency health workers about drugs and medical devices used in ambulances within the borders of Çorum city. The universe of this research is in the emergency health services stations affiliated to the Ambulance Service of Çorum in 2021-2022; 17 physicians, 109 paramedics, 210 EMTs, 41 nurses and 31 midwives formed 408 participants be working in ambulance stations. In the study, a 3-part questionnaire about drugs, medical devices and application methods was applied. In the first part of the questionnaire, there are 13 questions in its introductory features, in the second part there are 22 statements about IV drugs that are frequently used in the emergency service and 112 ambulances, and in the third part, there are a total of 28 statements about medical devices that are frequently used in the emergency service and 112 ambulances. As a result of the research, it was determined that the participants consisted of paramedics, EMTs, physicians, nurses and midwives with an average of 30,9 years of age, mostly associate degree graduates, and an average of 9,7 years of professional experience.This research reveals that participants seek to have training on medicine and drug appllications and interventional applications after thir graduation. Morever, it is observed that paramedics and physicians have adequate knowledge of medicine and drug applications and interventional applications. However,it is observed that EMTs are partially enough, but nurses and midwives do not have adequate knowledge of medicine and drug applications and interventional applications.. It was observed that the most wrong answers were given to the questions about drug doses. In addition to this, in interventional procedures, the most incorrect answers were given to questions about intraosseous application and capnometry. It has been determined that those who receive in-service training related to interventional procedures, drugs and drug applications in their institutions are more successful. It can be recommended that only paramedics, EMTs and physicians who have got educated in this field should serve in the ambulance. In addition, it may be recommended to continue in-service training on safe drug administration and interventional procedures at regular intervals.
