Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYate developmental status of 0-5 years old hospitalized children by expanded guide for monitoring child development (E-GMCD) according to 4 fundamental areas of International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health-Child and Youth Version (ICF-CY) body functions and structures, activities, participation, environmental factors.Materials and Methods: This is a cross sectional case detection study. The sample costituted 116 children aged 0-5 years, who had chronic diseases and were hospitalized in the pediatrics department of Inonu University Medical School hospital between 1 March - 30 September 2011. Male and female ratio of study sample is equal. Results: Developmental status of study sample about receptive language, expressivelanguage, gross and fine motor, relationships (social and emotional), playing and self help skills are evaluated by E-GMCD. Seven (6%) cases have developmental problem in only one domain, whereas 42 (36,2%) cases have more than one. Totally 49 ( 42,2 %) children have developmental delay in this study. Seventeen (34,6%) of children who have developmental problem are newly diagnosed during this study. Among the developmentally delayed 49 children, 12 ( 24,5 %) have acute and 37 (75,5%) have chronic illn ss. More than half of children have (82 %) at least one problem of sleeping, feeding, and social activities. Conclusion: Until developmental follow-up and support methods develops in our health care system, hospitalisation is a good opportunity to detect developmental problems for early diagnosis and treatment.Key Words: Expanded Guide For Monitoring Child Development, Early chilhood, developmental problem,
