Clean sands, sandscontaining fines and non-plastic silts have been shown to be liquefiable soils both inthe field and in the laboratory. The objective of this research was to determine the liquefaction risk of theHatay Samandağ Altınkoy region. The liquefaction potential was evaluated byexamining the relationship between SPT, depth and ground acceleration values. Inaddition, granulometric composition of the soils taken from study area was comparedto the previous research results for its liquefaction potential. Grain size analysisshowed that the soils of the study area were composed of sand having differentamount of silt fraction (13.60%-48.74%). Natural water content of the soils rangesfrom 10.94% to 19.70%. The ground water level is observed at about 4.50 m. Resultsshowed that the study area has significant liquefaction risk. However, further studiesare needed to make a generalization for whole study area.Key Words: Liquefaction potential, SPT, Granulometric analysisII
