Abstract (EN)
Airports are one of the infrastructure elements of air transportation, a sub-sector of transportation systems. Airports are specially designed facilities encompassing the necessary buildings for regulating passenger and aircraft traffic, as well as the infrastructure and facilities required to prepare aircraft for flight and facilitate their landing and takeoff. The efficient operation of these facilities, which require significant investment and operating costs, is of great importance in terms of the use of national resources. Airports, which play a crucial role in air transportation, are a country's gateway to the world and make a significant contribution to national promotion. They also contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development of the region in which they are located. Today, time and speed are paramount. The speed, comfort, and safety of air travel, along with the continuous and rapid development of civil aviation technology, have further increased the importance of air transportation for passenger and cargo transport compared to other modes of transport. Globally, civil air transportation has shown tremendous growth in the last twenty years. Parallel to this, it is possible to see increasingly rapid development in this field in Türkiye as well. In recent years, with the impact of efforts to expand civil aviation activities to every possible city in Türkiye, the number of civil air carriers, general aviation businesses, training and sports facilities, and aircraft such as airplanes, helicopters, and gliders has increased, along with a rapid increase in the number of airports starting from 1986. The Turkish Civil Aviation Law No. 2920, which came into force in 1983, made important regulations to develop private air transportation. Airports, which are the gateway of countries to the world and play a very important role in national promotion, also make significant contributions to the economic, social, and cultural development of the region in which they are located. Today, there is rapid change and development in airport and terminal management. In Türkiye, the practice of opening military airports to civil air transportation businesses is quite widespread in order to develop regional air transportation. This study will examine the concept of aviation and the Malatya Airport within the framework of its operational model, and will discuss descriptive information about Malatya Airport. Passenger and cargo data of Malatya Airport from previous years will be examined and compared with neighboring and other airports. This study aims to evaluate the impact of Malatya Airport's revenue and expenditure on the national economy. It will examine the grievances of both arriving and departing passengers at Malatya Airport, and develop short-term and long-term solution-oriented new proposals. The study will first address airport concepts, followed by a discussion of international texts related to Malatya Airport. The goal is to review existing literature, make evaluations, and offer recommendations.
