Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between emotional intelligence levels and communication skills of nurses. In this respect, 246 nurses working in Istanbul American Hospital were reached by using convenience sampling method and questionnaire technique and data were obtained. The data collection tool consists of three sections. The first section is sociodemographic information form. The second section is Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, which was developed by Schutte et al. (1998), regulated by Austin et al. (2004) and adapted to Turkish by Tatar et al. (2011). And the third section is Communication Skills Inventory, which was developed by Ersan and Balci (1998). The research data has been analyzed with IBM SPSS 20 software. After presenting sociodemographic information about the participants, descriptive findings related to emotional intelligence and communication skills were presented. Then the relationship between these two variables was examined with Pearson correlation analysis. And independent sample t test and one-way analysis of variance were used for determining the relationship between sociodemographic information and research variables. According to the research results, a positive and meaningful relationship was found between intelligence levels and communication skills of nurses.
