Abstract (EN)

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine nurses' encounters with workplace incivility and its effects on satisfaction levels. Materials and Methods: The research is descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample of the study consisted of nurses who volunteered to participate in the study at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital between September and December 2020 (n=313). Data were collected with the Information Form, the Workplace Rudeness Scale and the 0-10 index to determine the level of satisfaction. Data analysis was done in SPSS 22.0 program. To determine the relationship between nurses' sociodemographic characteristics and scale scores; Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Benferroni tests were performed. Spearman correlation analysis was also performed to determine the relationship between employee satisfaction and Workplace Dishonesty Scale. Results: The mean age of the nurses was 29.78±6.24, 78.9% were female and 41.9% had a bachelor's degree. The mean NIQ score of the nurses was found to be 1.82±0.84. The mean satisfaction of the nurses with the institution was 7.49 ± 2.11; the mean unit satisfaction was found to be 6.46 ± 2.09. A negative, moderate and statistically significant relationship was found between the nurses' incivility scale total scores and their unit and institution satisfaction scores. There were significant differences between the mean scores of the workplace incivility scale according to the marital status and education level of the nurses (p<0.05). The mean scores of married nurses were higher than those of single nurses, and the mean scores of nurses with postgraduate education were higher than those of nurses with undergraduate, associate degree and high school education. Conclusion: As the workplace incivility of nurses increases, employee satisfaction decreases. For the satisfaction of nurses, efforts can be made to reduce incivility behaviors in health institutions. Keywords: Workplace incivility, employee satisfaction, nurse.
