Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine of medical errors tendency and the factors affecting of nurses. Material and Method: The sample of the study consisted of 217 nurses working in a state hospital. The data were collected using face-to-face interview technique with "Nurse Information Form" and "Tendency to Medical Errors in Nursing Scale (TMENS)". One-way Anova, t test, Kruskal Wallis variance analysis, chi-square and Pearson correlation tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: Of the nurses who participated in the study, 18.9% (n = 41) performed a medical error, 18% (n = 39) of these errors were drug administration and 4.6% (n= 10) of the wrong record (4.6%). The rate of medical error reporting was found to be 4,9%. According to female nurses, male nurses made more medical errors and university graduates made less medical errors than other education levels. TMENS total score was 223.6 ± 12.8, and those who did not do medical errors had higher total scores of TMENS. It found that female nurses had lower HTHEÖ scores than male nurses while there was no significant difference between the TMENS scores according to age, marital status, educational status, service and working shift. The mean score of "Hospital Infection" sub-scale was lower in the nurses working in the emergency department, and the mean scores of "Drug and Transfusion Applications" were higher in the nurses working in the operating room. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the rate of making medical errors in nurses was high, but the tendency to make medical errors was low and they were reluctant to report mistakes. In line with the findings, it is recommended that nurses should be trained in the reporting of medical errors and errors. Keywords: Nurse, medical errors, affecting factors.
