Abstract (EN)

Reactive oxygen species are known to play multiple roles in physiological and pathological state and are constantly produced by living organisms. Coenzym Q 10 ( Ubiquinone) is the essential mitochondrial redox-component and endogenous antioxidant. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of Coenzym Q 10 on the levels in serum cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL, VLDL and tissue cholesterol, lipid, saturated and unsaturated fatty acid of given hydrogen peroxide in rats. The serum triglycerides content in the H202 group decreased when compared to the control. Similar results were observed from total cholesterol of lung tissues and total lipid of liver tissues. The level of total cholesterol in serum, spleen, lung, liver, brain, muscle, kidney, heart, eye and testis tissues did not differ between the control and ubiquinone groups. The amount of serum LDL and VLDL in ubiquinone groups significantly increased when compared to the control groups. While the level of arachidonic acid (20:4) did not differ between the control and H202 groups, it did increase significantly in the ubiquinone group when compared to the same groups in lung tissue. The level of oleic acid (18:1) in ubiquinone group decreased when compared to control, H2O2 and H202+ ubiquinone groups in spleen tissue. The level of stearic acid (18:0) increased. While the level of oleic acid (18:1) in ubiquinone group decreased, the level of stearic acid (18:0) increased in same group when compared to control group in liver tissue. We conclude that dietary supplementation with ubiquinone decreases LDL and VLDL oxidizabilitiy and inhibits biosynthesis of 18:1. This result is an important metabolic control point in body weight regulation. Keywords: ubiquinone, hydrogen peroxide, LDL, VLDL, HDL, cholesterol, trigliycerides, total lipid, fatty acid.
