Retrospective evaluation of patients WHO underwent hypospadias surgery

Hypospadias is a congenital anomaly in which the external urethral meatus is more proximal to the tip of the glans penis and opens onto the ventral aspect of the penis. It is observed in every 250-300 births, it is most commonly located distally and its treatment is surgery. The aim of hypospadias surgery is to obtain a normal penis both functionally and cosmetically. For this purpose, hundreds of different techniques, which are modifications of each other, have been defined. In this study, records of 285 patients who were followed up and treated for hypospadias between March 2013 and December 2020 in Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery were retrospectively reviewed. The age of the patients, urethral meatal localization, surgical method used in the treatment, duration of urethral catheterization and postoperative complications were recorded. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the surgical technique applied. Group I included 86 (30.1%) patients who underwent MAGPI method, and Group II included 199 (69.8%) patients who underwent TIPU method. In order to prevent fistula formation, a single layer Dartos flap was applied to all patients who underwent the TIPU method. MAGPI and Mathieu have been used as basic methods for many years in the treatment of distal hypospadias. TIPU is a method that is easy to apply and can be preferred regardless of the localization of the urethral meatus. A barrier layer placed between the new urethra and the skin in the prevention of fistula formation significantly reduces the rate of fistula. The preputial Dartos flap is a good choice because of its rich vascularization.
