Relationship between servant leadership and turnover intention: A sample of construction sector

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the study is to explain how the perception of an employee to servant leadership affects the intention to leave in the primary construction sector. At the same time, we searched that servant leadership's effect on turnover intention, analyzing these characteristics, servant leadership's dimensions, which personal characteristics servant leader has. At the same time, the effects of the characteristics of the servant leader, which personality traits he has, and the effects of these characteristics on the turnover intention were examined. The questionnaire was applied to the working employees in the construction sector with multiple choice answers and five-point Likert method. The study included 125 people, 93 of whom were male and 32 were female, working as a blue or white collar in the construction sector. In this study, the relationship between servant leadership and turnover intention is examined and the extent to which they interact. According to the result, a negative relationship was found between servant leadership and turnover intention. This study contributes to the construction sector the leader-follower relationship. The results show that employees' relationships with their leaders are important and that employees can influence their intention to leave. In the literature, many factors have been taken into consideration for the turnover intention, the most common while emphasizing the importance of salary-related job leaving, it is the importance of the leader-follower relationship.
