A comparative research on Ibrahim Edhem stories

Stories of Ibrahim Edhem are one of the religious folk tales that are read in public meetings and serve the purpose of adopting and teaching Islam. In the stories of Ibrahim Edhem, the ideal Muslim type has been tried to be conveyed to the public through Ibrahim Edhem, a saintly figure. As a matter of fact, Ibrahim Edhem is a sultan who left his crown, throne, family and homeland behind for the sake of Allah's love. The story of Ibrahim Edhem, from being a sultan to being a dervish, has been the subject of narratives. In the research, after the Ibrahim Edhem stories were determined, three verse Ibrahim Edhem stories were selected from among them. It is aimed to present a comparative study between the stories by transcribing them. In our study, the poetic stories of Ibrahim Edhem, which are included in the three manuscripts with the fixture numbers "06 Mil Yz A 3803/3", "06 Mil Yz A 4309/2", "06 Mil Yz A 9260/3" obtained from the Turkish Manuscripts Institution are regarded. While making comparisons, the form and content features of the stories were examined. In this direction, the motifs of Ibrahim Edhem stories were determined and the functions of these motifs in narrative types such as epic, fairy tale, legend, folk tale and in the stories of Ibrahim Edhem were comparative. Thus, it is desired to determine the place of Ibrahim Edhem stories in the narrative tradition of Turkish literatüre. As in other verse religious stories in terms of form, the stories of Ibrahim Edhem were also written in masnavi verse form and in aruz prosody. These works, which were created and written down since 13th century, carry the language characteristics of the old Anatolian Turkish period. Although the masnavi is written in verse form, a style that the public can understand has been adopted in the stories, since they are written for the public. This study is based on three bases; the publication and analysis of the text, the function of the Ibrahim Edhem stories, and the place of the stories in the Turkish narrative tradition. In our study, the comparative method was used.
