Hasht Bahesht of İdrīs-i Bidlīsī and it's Orhan Gazi's term (Analysis and translation)

With the conquest of Istanbul, the Ottoman State, which evolved into an empire, has changed its history writing style in parallel with this development. From the 16th century onwards, under the influence of Iranian history and literature, works were written in an artful language. Bayezid II, who inherited a great empire from his father, wanted to written dynastic histories in the style of the construction of works in which Timur's grandeur was exhibited to create the image of the world sultan. Idrīs-i Bidlīsī, who served Sultan Yakub in the Akkoyunlu Palace, aimed to make Hasht Bahesht, in which he wrote the history of the Ottoman dynasty, equivalent to the history books of Cuveynī, Vassaf and Yezdī when he defected to the Ottoman State due to political turmoil in the region. Bidlīsī, who was a follower of a late Timurid history writing tradition, successfully applied Timurid historiography practices to his work. Hasht Bahesht consists of a preliminary, eight chapters which constitute the main parts of the work and a epilogue. Each of the eight chapters is about the period of an Ottoman sultan. The language of the work is Persian and was used the rhetoric skillfully. It was built with literary prose and provided fluency and harmony in the text. In this study, the translation of the second chapter containing the period of Orhan Ghazi of Hasht Bahesht was presented. First of all, Bidlīsī and Hasht Bahesht were introduced and the contribution of the work to Ottoman historiography was briefly mentioned. The second chapters of Terceme-i Hasht Bahesht, translated by Abdulbaki Sadi during the reign of Mahmud I, and Hasht Bahesht was compared and the work of Abdülbaki Sadi was evaluated. The sources used by Bidlīsī in writing his work and influenced by his work have been examined by comparing the events of Orhan Ghazi period. In the last part of the thesis, the second chapter of Hasht Bahest was translated as much as possible by translating every word that was used without comprimising the style of Bidlīsī and the translation of the text was tried to be preserved.
