Abstract (EN)

Computer aided simulations of internal combustion engine cycles are valuable tool for designers. Engine simulation applications are used for performance estimation. In addition, they are used to obtain important data which can not be obtained with experiments and for understanding of complex processes that occur in combustion chamber successfully. In this study, an engine cycle simulation program was developed for analysis of a single cylinder two stroke direct injection diesel engine cycle. The simulation program was based on one- dimensional thermodynamics analysis which includes energy balance, mass continuity equation, ideal gas law and thermodynamic property relationship. In this simulation program, instantaneous change of temperatures, pressures and other properties were determined by using numerical solution of the related ordinary differential equations. Engine performance was examined for different compression ratios (16:1-20:1) and excess air coefficients (1.1 - 1.7) in the range of engine speeds from 1000 to 4000 rpm. Characteristic values such as cylinder pressure and temperature, mean indicated pressure, mean effective pressure and thermal efficiency were calculated by using the generated simulation program.
