Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to examine the effects of climate change on disaster risks through a case study of Van province. The study begins with a conceptual framework divided into three main sections. First, the concepts of climate, climate change, greenhouse gases, disaster, and disaster management are discussed. In the second section, the interaction between climate change and disasters is addressed. Climate change not only has environmental impacts but also creates social and economic effects, increasing the severity of disasters. The thesis then explores the natural disasters caused by climate change in Turkey. Finally, considering the geographical features and climatic structure of Van province, the disaster risks in the region are discussed. Van, with its mountainous areas, lakes, and vast plains, has diverse climatic conditions and is significantly impacted by climate change. The rise in temperature, irregularities in rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events have increased the frequency and intensity of disasters such as floods, landslides, and droughts. This thesis emphasizes the effects of climate change on disaster risks. In conclusion, this thesis, based on the case of Van province, highlights that climate change significantly increases disaster risks and emphasizes the need to develop effective disaster management strategies in the region
