Ecology under the domination of economics: The case of renewable energy market (HPP) in Turkey

In the face of the increasing dimension of ecological problems after 1970, under the framework of the preservation of nature argument, the intervention to ecological field by the means of economics initiated. The roots of ecological problems has been explained through the concepts of economic field, such as externalities, the lack of market and private property rights and monetary value of the ecosystem services. The solution to this has been constructed on the basis of economic logic, and it has been claimed that by determinating the price of ecological entities, inasmuch as their markets are constituted, their excessive consumption would be restricted. For this purpose, various pricising methods has been developed, and in order to construct ecosystem markets ecosystem services rendered exchangeable and classified, and the nature has been defined as "natural capital", a new form of capital. As new approaches of economics, "environmental economics" and "ecological economics" have played a role in the development of all these so-called methods and concepts. The purpose of this study is to quest whether the intervention to ecology by the means of economics finds a solution, and to research several social and natural results created by this intervention.
