Analysis of Ilhan Tok's style of reading Quran and mawlid

In this study, the style of reading the Quran and Mawlid by İlhan Tok who is one of the most important performers of classical İstanbul style today was discussed. First of all, İlhan Tok was closely introduced through starting with his life and works. The problems he suffered during the years of his student life and the teachers contributed to his education were mentioned about and his services related to chanting the Quran in due form were highlighted. His works related to music and his scientific study which he produced in the performance of Quran through employing notation sounds were also analyzed. In this study, the terms of Tarz-ı Osmani (the Ottoman Style) and Fem-i İstanbul (the dialect of İstanbul) in the chanting of Quran were explained and İlhan Tok's attitude and style in Chanting Quran were revealed. In the performance of Mawlid in conformity with traditions, his knowledge, accumulation and experiences were shared and his style in the performance of Mawlid was revealed. The compositions which he wrote lyrics for were compiles and his literary style and his identity of composer were explained. The interviews which were conducted with the people who know İlhan Tok closely were given and it was aimed to introduce İlhan Tok closer through his unknown aspects. In addition to his 72 works which he reflected his specific classical style, the documents and pictures obtained from his archive were also attached at the end of the thesis research.
