The Turkish lesson performance task has been put into practice on the second stage students attending primary schools

Recent developments in the education field have been affecting deeply both Turkish education and the other fields. Especially in the measurement and evaluation techniques, the reflections of new searches and applications have been taking attention in Turkish Education. Nowadays, one of the alternative methods used for the student evaluation is performance task.The aim of this thesis is to set forth the students? ideas related to the application of the performance tasks used as evaluation method in Turkish Lesson in the second stage of the primary education.The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who have been attending the second stage in the state primary schools in Anatolian side of İstanbul have formed the area of the investigation. The batch of the investigation has been composed of randomly selected totally 300 second stage primary students, attending the second stage of the 6th grade students in number 102 (%34), the 7th grade students in number 103 (%34,3) and the 8th grade students in number 95 (%31,7).Having made investigations and consulting the experts and asking them for their opinions, a questionnaire consisting of three parts to be applied to the students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade in the primary schools has been prepared. The questionnaire prepared to evaluate the Turkish lesson performance task has been put into practice on the second stage students attending primary schools. Statistics program called SPPS has been used for the analysis of the data obtained from the questionnaires applied to the students. The tables for the results of the findings has been formed and commented. By means of the questionnaire being applied to the students, the obtained data which have been suitable for the targets have been analyzed by using frequency (N), percentage (%) the arithmetic average (X), standard deviation (Ss), freedom degree (Sd), the t test and variance analysis. Whether there is a significant difference or not among the groups has been tested at the level of p<0,05. In the survey, as a result of the questionnaire applied to the students attending the second stage in the primary schools, it has been observed that there aren?t any significant differences compared to factors including gender, grade, the education level of the parents, the occupation of the parents, and if performance tasks haven been applied or not.The superior and poor sides of the application of the performance task evaluation have been debated under the light of the students? opinions.In our present education system, the method of the performance task evaluation when compared to the traditional measurement and evaluation activities, it has been observed that they are useful.In the students? being evaluated, it is proved that the students have been present detailed information both to themselves and to their teachers, that they encourage to learning and to take responsibility for learning and that they develop the student-teacher communication.Therefore, it is recommended that performance task is to be used as an alternative evaluation means in our education system.Key Words: Primary School, second stage, Turkish Education, Measurement and Evaluation, Performance Task
