İlköğretim matematik öğretmenliği birinci sinif öğrencilerinin prizma ve silindir kavramlarina dair kavram imajlarinin i̇ncelenmesi

In this study, first year elementary mathematics education student's concept image about the concepts of prism and cylinder was investigated . During this research we worked with 117 participants who are first year students at a state university which is located in the southern region of Turkey in the academic year 2011-2012. In order to collect data, a form ıncluding three dimentional geometrical concepts was utilized. The participants were asked to write the connotations about given concepts and draw the shapes of the appropriate ones. Within this study, the data about prism and cylinder were analysed qualitatively. It seems that the participants are generally inclinable to define and portrayal the shapes instead of trying to connotative them. Also there is a conspicuity that, there were an over-emphasize on the planar geometrical shapes which appears on the face of the certain concepts. On the other hand, most of the participants have a sense of the right circular cylinder as cylinder and sense of rectengular prism as prism. It's seemed that participants generally draw the solid edges at back of the shapes. As the result of collected data, we can say that participants' concept image about prism and cylinder could not been enriched. In addition, they have some incorrect concept images.
