Evaluation of the opinions of elementary school teachers apropos of global education

Abstract (EN)
This study is a scanning modeled scientific work based on the aim of declarationof the ideas of elementary school teachers about the ?Global Education?. The subject ofthe study is ?opinions of the elementary school teachers (both class teachers and branchteachers) about the intension of the global education subjects in curriculum and whatwill the results of the presence of these subjects on the curriculum?. The studyenvironment is consisting 232 class and branch teacher that work in the Ankara citycenter schools during 2005-2006. Data have collected via three different survey forms.The following results are collected after the free group t test, unidirectionalvariance analysis and analyses using descriptive statistical techniques.Teachers? opinions about the intension of the global education subjects incurriculum are as following. While they agreed on high intension of the internationalsubjects such as human rights, contributions of science and technology to humanity,equality of humans regardless their religion, race or language, environmental pollution,acid rains, nuclear waste, protection of sea animals, water pollution and subjects relatedwith democracy however they tend to think that the intension of subjects such asintroduction of holy or special days of other religions and cultures, international politicand economic associations, foundations, information about different religious beliefs,issues on international war and security policies and subjects about artworks andmusical pieces of other nations should not be high. The meaningful difference ofteachers? opinions about the intension of the global education subjects in curriculumthat is seen on some items is based on gender, length of service, branch and whichunion they are in.While teachers believe that global education in case of being a part ofcurriculum will have positive effects on rising responsive individuals about worldproblems, improving individuals? understanding of both themselves and their countriesposition on international arena, making individuals bring solutions and new strategiesabout world problems and enabling them to adopt democracy and world peace. On theother hand, they do not believe that these will lessen economic and politic injustice,decrease wars and global terrorism, realization of unfair affairs of multi nationalcompanies and will help in creating a common culture understanding that all humanitymay share and thus cooperation and solidarity between nations will prevail. Thereseemed no meaningful difference in teachers? opinions on the effects of globaleducation subjects according to gender, length of service, branch and which union theyare in.As a conclusion, it can be said that elementary school teachers have positiveattitude to global education and implications of global education.Keywords: Global Education, Globalization, Elementary Education, Teacher
