Abstract (EN)
Elective tourism 1, 2 and 3 courses are implemented in primary schools to beable to orient students to tourism occupation and to give them tourism consciousness.To search productivity of these courses is the extent of the study.Review of literature and interviews were made and questionnaires wereimplemented to teachers and students for getting research data. Questions undercommon headlines concerning ?Objects of Curriculum?, ?Content of Curriculum?,?Learning and Teaching Process? and ?Evaluation? were asked in questionnairestogether with ?Personal Knowledge?. Obtained data at the end of questionnaireimplementations were analized using statistical methods. Personal characteristics ofteachers and students and perceptions of them about curriculum, and interactionlevels of their answers to different questions and relations among these weresearched. The main results of the study are; most of the teachers who give instructionbeing from out of the field and not taking any education related with tourism, and thecourses not being sufficient to realize outcomes of the envisaged education.The suggestions were developed at the end of the study. To give tourismconsciousness and orient the students to occupation in Turkey must be realized inprimary school stage throughout the country. The tourism course must beimplemented as a compulsory course, and the course curriculum must be designedaccording to new methods in accordance with necessities of country and students.Required materials should be provided in the process of the course and cooperationshould be established with Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In service educationmust be given course teachers. Additionally due to the importance of the topiccomprehensive researches must be carried out with institutional supports.Keyword: Tourism education, tourism consciousness, primary schooltourism course, orienting to occupation.
