Analysis of the texts in the story style included in the 6th grade Turkish course books of primary education according to Greimas actants model

This research has been carried out so as to analyze the texts in the story style included in the 6th grade Turkish course books studied within the school year 2009-2010 according to Algirdas Julien Greimas? Actants Model and to determine the common structures in these analyzed texts. The research population consists of the 6th grade Turkish course books. The model of this research, which has been made through the screening model, consists of eight stories in the 6th grade Turkish course books published by Koza and MEB Publications. The texts entitled ?Eskici, Süpermen İstanbul?a Düştü, Çocuk ile Geyik, Prensi Olmayan Masal Kitabı? in the course book of Koza Publications and the texts entitled ?Çocuk Kitaplığında Sabah Tartışması, Kitap Kuşum Uçuverdi, Ömür Boyu Mutluluk, İstanbul Liseli Küçük Hasan, Eskici? in the course book of MEB Publications were analyzed.In the first stage of the research, the texts in the story style were determined by scanning the 6th grade Turkish course books. These stories were divided into sections according to temporal, stylistic, spatial and semantic differences. These stories divided into sections were subject to analysis with Greimas? semiotic model. General transformation realized by actants during narrative were tabulated by means of narrative syllabus and it was researched that to what extent manipulation, competence, performance, recognition and sanction phases occur in flow sheet of narrative and its effect son narrative. Pursuant to analysis of all the texts, a general narrative syllabus was formed for the narratives in question and the position, performance and competence of the actants were displayed in this table. Thus, the common points between semantic structures of the texts were determined.In the conclusion part of the research, positive effects of semiotic reading on text reading are stated and it is suggested that the activities for the students in the course books can be prepared accordingly and the actants model can be applied to many narratives.
