Abstract (EN)

Listening is basic of language skill, an done of the most effective learning method. If it is compared with the other language skills, we understand that listening is used more than the others. Perhaps we aren't aware of it but we listen somebody or technological tools like tv or radio through the day. It is obvious that there has been no real study about listening till now. In this thesis, meaning of listening, listening for primary school Turkish lessons, the importance of it in daily life, portion of it for learning, kinds of listening and the ways of developing the skill of listenin in 6., 7. and 8. classes are told. Also, reading and understanding test was done to the students who are from 6. 7. and 8. classes of three different primary schools which are different in terms of social and economical situations and their levels were tried to be meaused. Then course articles which are suitable for their level were examined by us and a listening - understanding test about these articles was done. After that listening skills and class - school comparisons were made, the success proportion between these three schools were found and they were evalvated. As a result of these applications, it was understood that reading and listening- understanding levels of 8. classes were higher than 7. classes and 7. classes were higher than 6. classes. It is obvious that levels of students understanding are improving and they can understand the listening events easily by increasing from 6. to 7. and from 7. to 8. classes. Also in this application, 6., 7. and 8. classes of three schools which are different according to their social and economical situations were compared as a whole and it was understood that students from city are more successful then the students from district and students from district are more successful than the students from village.IV The questions in listening test were asked according to lesson's course and it was understood that proportion of the answers of first questions was more than the last questions. This result shows that the attention of students reduced through the end of course. Tape recorder and video... etc. Are more important for acquiring the skill of listening but in the schools it is seen that these equipments are absent. So this is one of the effect of not acquiring the skill of listening in the schools. The district and village students haven't got the libraries which are useful for students to increase their cultural knowledge. This is the other reason for these schools being more unsuccessfull than the city schools. Turkish teachers in these three schools were interviewed about listening education and they said that they told the lesson according to the course boks, so they didn't do a special application for listening. Also they explained that in the sections about listenin, there hadn't been an application about listening and they learned about this event in the university. As a result, it is obvious that writers of Turkish course books and the teachers haven't got enough knowledge, so the students can't completely acquire the skill of listening. Turkish teachers must be informed enough about listening education and told about the application in the university. Teachers must use the listening skill in their season's plan and they must be informed about listening education and they must do some studies for students using the equipments about listening.
