Examination of the relationship between story writing skills and problem posing skills of the 4th grade primary school students

The relationship between story writing skills and problem posing skills of the 4th grade primary school students has been examined in this study. The population of the research was composed of 2017-2018 academic year 4th grade primary school students in the province of Ankara. The study sample was composed of 251 through easy example selected 4th grade students from 3 primary schools in the middle socioeconomic status in Ankara. "Personal Information Form", "Free Story Writing Form", "Story Writing from the Visuals Form", "Story Writing from the Story Map Form", "Story Completion Form" and "Problem Posing Form" were used for data collection. The study was carried out by the researcher in 6 weeks. Each answer given by the students to the questions was assessed according to whether they are mathematical problems or statements. The stories were scored by the rubrics developed by the researcher. Collected data was analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, and t test. As a result of the research, it has been determined that there is a moderate, positive and significant relationship between free story writing, story writing from the visuals, story writing from the story map, story completion scores and problem posing scores. It has also been found that the average scores of the female students in all story writing areas and in problem posing differ significantly from the average scores of male students.
