Examining the mathematics literacy levels of primary school 4th grade students

In the study, it was aimed to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure the mathmatics literacy levels of primary school fourth grade students and to reveal the relationship between students' mathmatics literacy levels and demographicvariables. For this purpose, survey method was used as a method in the study. The study was carried out with a total of 749 primary school fourth grade students from 10 primary schools from different socioeconomic levels selected from the central districts of Gaziantep in the 2021-2022 academic year. The obtained data wereanalyzed with the SPSS 22.0 package program. First of all, the validity and reliability studies of the scale were carried out with the collected data, then measurements such as percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t test, one-way analysisof variance were adhered to in line with the sub-purposes of the research. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the Primary School Mathmatics Literacy Scale developed for the fourth grade of primary school is a valid and reliable scale.According to the data obtained from students from different socioeconomic levels, it was revealed that the mathmatics literacy level of the students was moderate. In addition, according to the research findings, it shows that students' mathmatics literacy differs significantly according to gender, mother's education level and household income. No significant difference was found between other demographic variables such as pre-school education, father's education status, family members, number of siblings and mathmatics literacy.
