Examination of postgraduate theses conducted on primary school mathematics topics

The aim of this study is "The Examination of Postgraduate Theses Conducted on Primary School Mathematics Topics." Mathematics is an important subject, both because of its extensive presence in national exams and as one of the core subjects in the curricula. Another significant factor contributing to the concentration of studies on mathematics education is the difficulty students face in mathematics courses. Due to the importance of mathematics in these two fundamental aspects, the number of academic studies on this subject has also increased accordingly. This research has been conducted according to the systematic review technique in qualitative research methods. A total of 254 theses were examined in this study. The theses were evaluated based on various parameters such as publication type, years, institutions, departments, research methods, study groups, class levels, sample sizes, sampling methods, data collection tools, keywords, and the variables included in the theses, according to the mathematics topics. The data obtained in this study were analyzed using descriptive analysis and content analysis. The results of the study showed that master's theses were more prominent among the types of theses, and the most commonly used data collection tool was the Achievement Test, which was frequently applied in topics such as Natural Numbers and Operations with Natural Numbers. It was observed that quantitative research methods were predominantly used. When examining the distribution of common independent variables across topics, it was found that methods such as Game-Based Learning and Collaborative Learning were widely applied in most mathematical topics. However, the topic of Data was not associated with these variables. When analyzing the distribution according to sample sizes, it was found that theses with different sample sizes exhibited specific trends. In particular, theses with sample sizes ranging from 31 to 100 were more frequently preferred in topics such as Geometry, Fractions, and Data
