Synthesis and characterization of ligands containing imine and oxime and investigation of their transition metal complexes

The ligands of [salicyliden-/?-aminoacetophenoneoxime (L'H), 5-bromosalicyliden-/?- aminoacetophenoneoxime (L2H), 5-nitrosalicyIiden-/?-aminoacetophenoneoxime (L H), 5- hydroxysalicyliden-p-aminoacetophenoneoxime (L4H), 3-methoxysaIicyliden-p- aminoacetophenoneoxime (L5H), 3-ethoxysalicyliden-/;-aminoacetophenoneoxime (L('H) and naphthyliden-p-aminoacetophenoneoxime (L7H)] were prepared by the reaction of an aromatic aldehyde [salicylaldehyde, 5-bromosalicyIaldehyde, 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde, 5- hydroxysalicyaldehyde, 3-methoxysalicyIaldehyde, 3-ethoxyalicylaIdehyde and 2-hydroxy-l- naphthaldehyde] with this amine compound containing oxime. The complexes were prepared by the reaction of these Sch iff base ligands with Co2, Ni'2, Cu~ and Zn ~ acetate. Sch iff bases obtained have been characterized by their elemental analyses, IR, 'H-NMR, UC-NMR, UV-Vis, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). All of the Schiff bases were found to be bidentate ligands involving the imino nitrogen and carboxyl oxygen atoms in the complexes. Metal to ligand ratio were found to be 1:2 for all of the complexes. Co 2, Ni+2, Cu12 and Zn'2 complexes have been found to have four coordinated tetrahedral geometry.
