Impact of information and communication technologies on Turkish economic growth and policy recommendations

This study analyses the effect of information and communication technologies to the growth of economy of Turkey and gives policy recommendations in the direction of obtained results. Gross domestic product per capita, unemployment, internet users per 100 people, mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 people and gross domestic product per capita growth for the years between 1993 to 2012 are used as variables. Time series analysis is used for investigating the relation between the variables and Augmented-Dickey Fuller Test is used for investigating whether the variables are stationary or not. In times series analysis, firstly, the relationship of the gross domestic product per capita with unemployment, mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 people and internet users per 100 people is investigated and then the relationship of the gross domestic product per capita growth rate with unemployment, mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 people and internet users per 100 people is analyzed. In addition, in the study, information is given about history and current state of information and communication technologies for Turkey and the World. Results show that information and communication technologies have positive impact on economic growth.
