The ongoing war in Yemen, lasting eight years, between the universally recognized legitimate government supported by the Saudi-led military coalition and the Houthi rebel movement backed by Iran has resulted in a significant increase in the number of impoverished and vulnerable individuals, pushing millions to the brink of poverty. Throughout this period, migrants and their remittances have played a crucial role in alleviating the suffering of thousands of families and easing their financial burdens. However, over the past two years, these remittances have steadily declined, exacerbating the hardships faced by Yemenis, escalating the poverty rate, and intensifying the need for financial support among families in the country. This study aims to examine the multifaceted factors that have contributed to this transformative situation. Specifically, it seeks to analyze the impact of the "Saudization" laws, which prioritize the employment of Saudi nationals, on Yemeni workers in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The study will investigate how these laws have affected the flow of financial transfers sent to families in Yemen and explore their broader implications for the Yemeni economy, as well as the political and humanitarian landscape within the country.
