Abstract (EN)

Glyomas are the most common type of cancer derived from brain tissue. Modern treatment methods such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy can provide a limited benefit in the treatment of glioma, but cannot stop the progressive course of the disease. For this reason, alternative ways for cancer treatment have been investigated in recent years. One of these ways is the induction of apoptosis caused by ceramide. Ceramide is a metabolite of sphingolipid pathway and has important roles in many cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, aging and angiogenesis. In this study, the effects of C6-ceramide, a short-chain ceramide on C6 glioma cells, was investigated. To determine the cytotoxic effect of the C6-ceramide on C6 cells, MTT (3-(4,5-dimetiltiazol-2-il)-2,5-diphthelium tetrazolium bromide colorimetric assay was used. Cell death pathways are morphologically indicated by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and confocal microscope.
