Indoor air quality evaluation at marketplaces in Istanbul, Turkey, during COVID-19 lockdown

Abstract (EN)

Throughout the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Turkey used strict lockdown policies to contain illness transmission. While quarantine regulations improved outdoor air quality, they deteriorated indoor air quality. This study shed insight on a time frame where people have spent their indoor times in places other than their homes. With indoor air quality (IAQ) is regarded as one of the top five environmental threats to public health, the majority of factors affecting IAQ have been considered whenever possible. For this study, Indoor air samples were obtained at four different marketplaces within 13 weeks during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Istanbul, Turkey. All indoor air quality data including carbon dioxide (CO2), relative humidity (RH), temperature, particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were collected. Also, statistical analysis and explanations were conducted on all concentrations and compared to global guidelines. Keywords: Indoor Air Quality, COVID-19, Lockdown, Marketplaces.
