The influence of corporate governance on dividend policy

Corporate governance is an internal system which is intended to work for the interests and needs of the shareholders and stakeholders by directing the company actions to the right direction and also controlling the management activities in a way that meets the overall expectations of the company?s shareholders and stakeholders. In the last 20 years, the corporate governance became a topic of debate between the world scholars, in which different scholars have varying views and definitions regarding the corporate governance. The main aim of this study is to find if there is an influence of corporate governance on dividend policy in Turkey. So, the study to be effective, the data that will be used in the analysis will be collected from ISE 100 and also from the financial data available in the public and from their personal websites.In this first chapter of this study, the definitions, actors and mechanisms of corporate governance was discussed in detail; also the importance, categories and principles of the corporate governance was discussed in brief. In this first chapter, the history of corporate governance was also talked about in brief, as well as the history of Turkish corporate governance.In the second chapter, the dividend payout ratio and dividend policy was discussed as well as its procedures and payment methods. Dividend is part of the net income of the company that is being aimed at given to its shareholders; this amount of money is usually a topic of debate in the management system of any firm. So, here the researcher will give highlight about the ways it is divided, the decisions taking when giving to the shareholders and etc.In chapter three, the empirical analysis of the study was done, and SPSS 18 has being used in the data analysis, the fourth chapter is the results of the analysis and the fifth chapter is the conclusion.
