Abstract (EN)
This dissertation focuses on the role of legal aid in promoting and protecting human rights. The study examines the relationship between legal aid, the right to an effective remedy and the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment. The research examines the importance of legal aid services in preventing and correcting human rights violations and identifies the challenges and issues that affect the effectiveness of legal aid services. The study is based on a comprehensive review of international human rights law and related literature, as well as a case study of legal aid services in selected countries. The findings show that legal aid is crucial to ensure access to justice and the protection of human rights, especially for marginalized and vulnerable populations. However, the effectiveness of legal aid services is hampered by funding constraints, lack of awareness and differences in the quality of legal representation. The study concludes by providing recommendations for addressing these challenges, including increased funding, improved awareness and training, and enhanced training for legal aid providers.
