The importance of human rights knowledge in the struggle with vi̇olence against women: A review on Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality services

Violence against women, is a form of gender-based violence as well as a violation of human rights. The human rights knowledge and perspective on women's human rights in the professional practises of professionals working with women who have been exposed to or carry a risk of gender-based violence, are of great importance for women to get out of the cycle of violence and lead a life worthy of human dignity The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the approaches / perspectives and knowledge of professionals working with women who have been exposed to or carry a risk of gender- based violence in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), in terms of women's human rights in their professional practices. The data of the study were collected in the form of semi-structured interviews, which is a qualitative data collection method, with the participation of 16 professionals who provide services in the field of combating violence against women in the İBB. The analysis of the data was made by using the MEXQDA 2020 qualitative data analysis program. As a result of the data analysis, it was concluded that the professionals working with women who were exposed to violence or who carry a risk in the İBB have a human rights perspective of women in their professional practices, however the participants have deficiencies in terms of human rights knowledge and need to improve themselves in this regard.
