Abstract (EN)
Femicide is one of the most important social problems in Turkey and finds its place often in both the traditional print media and the internet newspapers. Therefore, what kind of language used in the news and how the readers evaluate the news is a significant issue. In addition, the fact that internet newspapers can reach more people faster in the context of technological advances makes the researches carried out in these channels significant. In this study, it is aimed to investigate with a sociological approach the portrayal of femicide in internet newspapers, how women are represented in these news and how readers evaluate these news. For this purpose, a two-stage data collection process was designed. Qualitative content analysis and semi-structured in-depth interviews constituted two interrelated and supporting phases of the research. Through content analysis, femicide news on three most commonly used internet newspapers in Turkey were examined in a period of three months. By this way, problematic points on how women were represented were identified and a questionary form was created. Afterwards, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted in order to describe how internet newspaper readers evaluate the news of femicide in internet newspapers. According to the findings of the research, various news presentations and female representations shape readers' perspectives in different directions.
