An interpretative phenomenological analysis of the narcissistic injury

The current study aimed to examine in-depth the experience of narcissistic injury in adults. A qualitative research strategy was preferred to understand individuals' subjective experiences in-depth. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 7 individuals suitable for the purpose in line with the Five-Factor Narcissism Inventory Short-Form scores. The data were analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis method. According to the analysis results, seven themes were created, including "Grandiose Armor to Hold the Broken Self Together", "Presenting an Unshakable Self-Image", "Avoid Emotions to Avoid Getting Hurt", "Feeling Entitled as A Victim", "Self-Directed Destructiveness", "Reconstruction of The Self with The Lack of The Other", and "The Wounded Self's Need for Repair". The emerging themes and clinical effects were discussed in line with the relevant literature.
