Abstract (EN)

Patients with CVD were recruited for this study to examine the cut-offs, specificity and sensitivity of plasma levels of Irisin, Galectin-3 and Cystatin-C and the association between these indicators. 60 patients with a lower left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) by transthoracic echocardiography and another 40 patients (28 male, 12 female; mean age 48.55±10.08 year with a normal EF determined by transthoracic echocardiography as the control group) were analyzed. Compared to healthy controls, patients with CVD had higher plasma levels of Galectin-3 (p=0.002) and Cystatin-C (p=0.0023) and lower plasma levels of Irisin (p=0.0023). There was good sensitivity and specificity in the ROC curves for Galectin-3 (80 % and 90 %), Irsin (85 % and 94 %), and Cystatin-C (89 % and 97.4 %) as indicators of CVD. Age, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, creatine kinase MB (CKMB), Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and LDL-cholesterol levels were significantly higher while HDL-cholesterol levels were significantly lower among groups of patients compared to the control group. The present results concluded that Irisin, Galectin-3 and Cystatin-C assessment can be employed as a CVD diagnostic tool in clinical practice in Iraqi population. Keywords: Cardiovascular disease, Irisin, Cystatin –C, Galectin-3
