Abstract (EN)

SARS-CoV-2 virus has presented an unprecedented challenge for the medical care community across the world. Objective: To determine the changes in serum levels of oxidative stress Malondialdehyde (MDA) and antioxidant enzymes (Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Glutathione peroxidase (GPx), Catalase (CAT) in patients of COVID19. The samples of this study consists of 80 patients (40 males and 40 females) from (22-76) years old of age, and 40 apparently healthy individuals (20 males and 20 females) from (22 -76) years old of age. Patients were subjected to obsessive compulsive disorder in General Salah Addin Hospital, Salah Addin - Iraq between 1stof December, 2021 to 1st of Febriuary, 2022. The oxidative stress marker MDA was significantly increased in serum of patients of COVID19 patients and compared to control. Serum CRP was significantly increased in serum of patients of COVID19 compared to control, while there was a significant decrease in the level of GPx, SOD, GSH in patients with COVID19 compared to control groups. The results of the our study showed a significant increase in Malondialdehyde level as an indicator of lipid peroxidation in the patients, and this pattern is accompanied by decrease activation in the antioxidant activity SOD, CAT, and GPX, as a defense mechanism against free radicals in response to the increase in the oxidative stress.
