Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to isolate and identify Proteus mirabilis from patients with urinary tract infection (UTI). For this reason, urine samples were taken from 250 people who applied to Azadi Hospital and Al-Jumhuriya Hospital in Kirkuk between 1/3/2022-1/6/2022 due to UTI infection and placed in sterile tubes. Bacterial growth was positive in blood agar (23%) and MacConkey agar (14.2%) cultures in 93 urine samples. While 66.7% of the identified P. mirabilis isolates were not resistant to ampicillin, 20% were resistant to imipenem. In addition, gentamicin resistance of P. mirabilis isolates was determined as 53.3%. In addition, it was found that the isolates were 6.7% resistant to amikacin, 53.3% to ciprofloxacin and 33.3% to nalidixic acid. In terms of virulence factors, it shows the ability of Proteus isolates to produce urease, protease and hemolysin at different rates. Urease production percentage was 66.7%, protease production percentage was 46.7% and hemolysin production percentage was 33.3%.
