Abstract (EN)

Occupational health and safety has been implemented in various working areas in Turkey for many years and all businesses are obliged to carry out risk assessments or have them carried out. Under the scope of occupational health and safety, research excavations in Turkey are considered as "dangerous" working environments under the description of "Other service activities supporting mining and quarrying operations". These service activities can be classified as research activities, geological observations, discharging, and pumping activities. Drilling activities for testing purposes and activities conducted for petroleum and natural gas are exceptions to these service activities. In this study, information regarding research excavations have been presented under the title of "Research drilling and excavation" and two different risk assessment methods were used to evaluate the risks in a fossil site and their results have been compared. The two methods selected for risk assessments are the L-Type Matrix and the Fine-Kinney method. The results obtained from the study show that the Fine-Kinney method provided a larger range of evaluation in comparison to the L-type matrix method, and as such, that the reliability and accuracy of its results were much higher.
