Total quality management approach in occupational health and safety: road road construction example

Occupational Health and Safety is a discipline open to continuous improvement due to its nature. Today, the factors that make businesses successful in terms of preventing and minimizing occupational accidents are based on Total Quality Management principles, Occupational Health and Safety concept and quality and productivity principles. Occupational accidents that have occurred in the road construction sector in recent years have increased in direct proportion to the capacity of the work. In order to reduce the increase in occupational accidents in the workplace, the occupational health and safety management system and the total quality management system should be implemented in a coordinated manner. The aim of this study; In order to minimize occupational accidents occurring in road construction constructions, it is aimed to reduce occupational accidents to a minimum level and even to zero level by adopting Occupational Health and Safety Culture and applying continuous improvement approach. For this purpose, the implementation of Total Quality Management philosophy in Occupational Health and Safety practices in a road construction in Ankara is among the main objectives to prevent and minimize work accidents that may occur during the execution of the project. The questionnaire applied in the research consists of three parts. In the first part, there are 7 questions to get to know the employees. In the second part, there are 34 questions to measure the awareness level of the employees. In the third part, there are 9 questions to measure the knowledge level of employees about total quality management.
