259 ABSTRACT The Turks' struggle for settling in and introducing Islam to Anatolia have had so many consequences that even history may fail to describe these results thoroughly. It is evident that many Turkish leaders had contribution to these consequences. One of these leaders is Çelebi Isfendiyar Bey who ruled Kastamonu and Sinop, in the north of Anatolia, for more than a half century (1385-1440). Given the conditions in which he grew up, his political experiences, his personal strength and the ingenuity that he revealed in establishing a balanced international political synthesis for his state, he was a very important Turkish leader. İn order to keep the unity of the "Turkish Seljuks" and maintaining the ideals inherited from them, Isfendiyar Bey showed brovenes in competing with "Osman- oğullan" and "Karaman-oğullan" with whom he was always in fiery and close struggles. Despite these obstacles, he succeaded in improwing scientific studies during his government, his state developed so much as to compete with the bright scientific centers of Anatolia. During his leadership, he made the country a home for scholars and artists in order to keep and develop the Turk-îslam civilization. Also,he worked for building and improwing trade. The books published in Turkish, about this leader and the studies that bear a national character are a good sign that show Anatolia had been taken by the Turks for ever. He showed that he had done what he could to render Anatolia. This study is on isfendiyar Bey's defense and war politicy, who strove to keep the border lines of his state and who wrote his family name, "İsfendiyar-oğullan" in Turkish history, instead of blending with and getting lost in "Candar-ogullan". Also, this study cantains the lifestyle of Turkoman folk in this area, their social, economical, demographic and religions lives, whic reflected their social mood and character..
