Abstract (EN)
The aim is to deterine how the religion of Islam influenced Ottoman miniatures according to the interpretations of Orhan Pamuk's novel "My Name is Red". The scene of the novel is laid in Istanbul in the 16th century. It tells about the life of Ottoman school artists who practiced the perfect copying and imitation of the old masters, and at the same time they are led into the temptation to show their individual style. This is also heated up by the fact that European influence is gradually seeping into the Ottoman Empire. 16th century in Europe is a century of High Renaissance. Despite the fact that art in Europe is fundamentally different from the miniature, the novel makes a rapid comparison. Politics and religion strongly influenced art in the state. The problem was that the images were not allowed to resemble real people and were condemned by believers. The world was supposed to be displayed on paper with a very peculiar perspective and composition. Moreover, illustration of the Islamic sacred scriptures was prohibited completely. European art blatantly contradicted these traditions and caused deep resentment in conservative circles. In this work Orhan Pamuk compared the cultural and spiritual world of Eastern and Western art. The point of contact between reason and faith is important. After all, the development of science and art fully depends on a proper interpretation.
