A study on İsmail Güzelsoy and Banknote Trilogy

In this study, we examined İsmail Guzelsoy and three novels Sincap (2005), Rukas: Perde Açılıyor (2006) and İyi Yolculuklar (2007) which are published under the name of "Banknote Trilogy" in terms of plot, characters, time, place and narration techniques. Ismail Güzelsoy appears to us as one of the most productive authors of our contemporary literature. In Sincap which is the first novel of the "Banknote Trilogy", We witness the story of the poet Iskender's escape adventure who is being sought by the government, intelligence agent Metin, who chases Iskender and Sincap who choses forgery in order to take vengeance on goverment. The novel is presented to the readers with the period's social and political atmosphere. Trilogy's second novel Rukas: Perde Açılıyor focuses on the story of Salih Sartuk, who interprets the life through banknote surfaces and tells various stories to people, and Rukas, who came to the Kavaklı village to reveal the hidden truths behind what has happened to Salih. Basic elements of the novel such as story, plot, character, time and place are presented to the readers by both protagonist and narrator of the novel Rukas through his point of view. Last novel of the Trilogy İyi Yolculuklar on the other hand, is a novel that has two distinct section "Kronos Köprüsü" and "Kronos Labirenti", carries a realistic quality and is formed out of the stories that are nested. The author has fictionalized the theme he has dealed with the fairytale like language in addition to period's social and political atmosphere. These novels in the Trilogy, are not to be referred as the continuation of each other. The element that gathers these three novels under the same theme, is the references that are made to the people for their valuing of money as an object, and their adhere to money as an object with love and passion.
