Abstract (EN)
Medievalism is both a historicist and a modern concept. Starting from the 17th century, Medievalism, which started to develop together with the pre-romantics, has developed together with artistic styles and movements such as Romanticism, Gothic Revival, Arts and Crafts, Neo Romanesque, Pre-Raphaelitism. The common characteristic of these movements and styles is that they draw their inspiration from the forms and themes of medieval Europe. During the Westernisation period, Neo Gothic style and Neo Romanesque style started to be used in Ottoman architecture. Medievalist architectural forms, which were used eclectically or purely in buildings belonging to different communities in Ottoman architecture, offer some differences from their contemporaries in Europe. Within the scope of the study, this aspect of Ottoman architecture during the Westernisation period, which has not been researched much, will be discussed in detail.
