Investigation of personality traits and communication skills of swimming coaches in İstanbul

The aim of the thesis study named "Examination of personal characteristics and communication skills of swimming coaches in Istanbul" is to determine the communication skills and personality traits of swimming coaches. In the first stage of the study, the conceptual framework is included. In addition to dealing with swimming in various ways (sports and activities), the coaching profession; conceptually, its features, and the education given on this subject in Turkey and in the world are included. In particular, detailed information about swimming coaching is given in the study, and at this point, the classification of swimming coaching as a profession, professional characteristics and competencies, as well as the classification of the duties, comes to the fore. In addition, it is important to examine the leadership qualities and contributions of swimming coaches and the relationship between the coach and leadership in the light of democratic and autocratic leadership examples. While analyzing the five-factor personality traits of extraversion-introversion, adaptive personality, responsible personality, neurotic personality and open to development, it is discussed on the basis of swimming coaches, which forms the basis of the study. Finally, while both communication skills and personality traits are handled on the basis of swimming coaches; The relationship between the coach and the athlete is analyzed together with the professional qualifications of the coach, their communication skills, and their personality traits. In our study, the "Communication Skills Scale" developed by Korkut Owen and Bugay (2014) to measure the communication skills of swimming coaches, and Somer et al. (2000) "Five Factor Personality Scale" was applied. The findings obtained through the survey study were analyzed with the statistical package program called SPSS 25.0. Considering that it has been examined, the SPSS value obtained will be evaluated. In order to examine the normal state of the scores, non-parametric parametric will be applied by looking at the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test after the normality tests. The Chronological Coefficient of scales will be old in order to improve the classification of sample groups. After this, training analyzes are made with the SPSS program. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale used in the research was found to be 0.890 for the "Communication Skills" scale, and 0.940 for the "Personality Test" scale; It is possible to say that the power of the scales used in the research to represent the research is very reliable.
