Abstract (EN)

With the continuous diminishing of the green areas within the city, copse areas in Istanbul plays an important role as they enable residants to take a fresh air and breathe during the intense conditions of living of the city. These areas also contributes to the landscape areas of the city with their historic importance and unique characteristics. However, tranformation of copses (either natural or man-made) that are located in or near the city, to the "city parks" by losing their unique structure within time is an important problem. Landscape areas are formed by usage of either living (flora or human-landscape relation) or non-living (playgrounds, laying materials, lightnings, terrace areas etc.) materials. It is crucial to evaluate the original structure of the area while determining the usage and elements that will be included in the copse areas. In the study, formation of copse areas, changes within the history, the contribution of Istanbul copse's to the green infrastructure will be analysed. Within the scope of the study, it is aimed to reveal the change and current situation of the Hidiv İsmail Pasa Copse in the historical process, to examine the herbal and structural landscape elements by comparing them with the landscape materials that are accepted today, to determine the problematic issues by using greenscape quality evaluation criterias and examine the determined problems by applying Anova (variance) analysis to develop suggestions on the Hidiv İsmail Pasha Copse and the Istanbul province forest areas.
